David Kraus: The Listening Room
The Music Notes Page

I inhabit from a lifetime of playing)
"Chronicles" ~An Aural Biography~ This page and the MP3's which accompany it were designed to be just what the heading above describes. So the music in Chronicles will not be published nor made for sale though some certainly can be purchased, such as projects I was a part of but were not specifically my own creative work (e.g. The Vermont Jazz Ensemble or the Bob Gagnon Trio.) All of the solo classical and jazz tracks heard on the nylon string guitar were recorded live in the studio and entered directly onto my site solely as a part of this "musical biography". Though understandably incomplete, it at least gives somewhat of an aural view through a sonic window into what I do and have done in my career. Words on a bio page can go a long way in describing a musician's life, but I think that reading about music without hearing the source to give life to the words would be an exercise in futility. Also, in addition to being a place to share my creative art, this web space shares an equally important function as my professional site through which I receive a great deal of my work including club dates, studio sessions, weddings, events, film, students, and more. So having a sort of "resume" if you will, helps me keep my job:) So if you need a guitar player, just shoot me an e-mail. I will respond with a smile:) I hope you will enjoy what you hear.
Solo Classical Guitar: playing some pieces by Francisco Tarrega, Matteo Carcassi, Fernando Sor, Erik Satie, Antonio Carlos Jobim, J.S. Bach, Heitor Villa-Lobos and others, arrangements from some contemporary song writers like Lennon & McCartney and Joni Mitchell, in addition to one of
my own compositions which will be heard on my new solo guitar recording Qasaid ul Qitara.A yet to be released jazz electric guitar recording in which I was creatively double tracked as a "duo" (2 guitars) featuring my own original musical arrangements from a century of jazz greats including Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Horace Silver, Luiz Bonfa, and Johnny Mercer.
Pancultural and world music tracks drawing on my time living in India and Nepal, my recent travels to Western and Eastern Europe, a deep connection with Spain and Brazil, my newest interest and musical foray into traditional Japanese melody, and the music of Viet Nam which bears so much historical coloring from its time as a colony of India. I hope to use a few new colors on the next Some Sort of Angel CD.
Two tunes as the featured guitarist with The Vermont Jazz Ensemble, Vermont's premier classic 17 piece big-band, from their first major release "All of Us", and from my newest area of musical interest, a few pieces of music I've composed recently from two of my favorite documentary film projects to date.
